Custard Tart
A classic dessert featuring a silky custard filling in a buttery puff pastry crust.
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Ground nutmeg, for sprinkling
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 375F 190C
Roll out the puff pastry and line tart pans with it, trimming any excess
In a saucepan, heat milk until hot but not boiling
In a bowl, whisk together sugar, egg yolks, and cornstarch until smooth
Gradually whisk the hot milk into the egg mixture
Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract
Pour custard into the prepared tart shells
Sprinkle the tops with ground nutmeg
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the custard is set and the pastry is golden brown
Allow to cool before serving
